Radical Collaboration R&D Labs
With the RADICAL COLLABORATION R&D LABS project, which ran from 1 September, 2019 to 31 December, 2019, WDCD & STBY conducted industrial research in 6 Research & Development Labs together with relevant design and domain experts, talents and stakeholders.
Bringing together all these people from different sectors for one day and letting them work together in intensive sessions through design thinking, resulted in innovative results that would not otherwise arise. The groups looked at the themes along which the creative sector can address major social issues, such as climate, social justice and health & well-being. The results determine further activities of WDCD, such as challenges, research and higher education programs.
How did it go?
WDCD and STBY organised 6 R&D Labs (with 25-30 participants per Lab) on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, in which participants actively participated and the results of which [published online](https://www.whatdesigncando.com/events/ wdcd-live-2019-radical-collaboration-labs/). Preparatory design research was carried out in September and October 2019. Subsequently, the R&D LABS started.
The R&D Labs were only accessible by invitation. In order to guarantee quality and effectiveness, highly targeted experts, designers, academics, students, companies, governments, NGOs and interest groups were selected and invited to make an active contribution to the joint research, both the preparatory research and during the R&D. LABS itself.
Specifically, it concerned the following Labs:
- Water is Life,
- Donut Economy,
- Safer Cities,
- No Waste,
- Zero Suicide.
Project budget € 250,000, whereby € 75,000 PPS allowance is used.
