The creative industry is a collective term for all designers, creators and adjacent organizations. For example, fashion design, marketing, social design, photography, events, visual arts, production houses and (pop) venues. Creative professionals often work in and for other sectors. Examples include healthcare, energy, security and construction. What binds creative professionals together is that they all use creativity as a means to create value.
With its creative ability and design power, the creative industry is capable of creating wonderful innovations. Innovations that contribute to a stronger industry and a more beautiful world.
Just think of social designer who creates a car-free area so that people actually take the bike more often, and leave the car at home. This results in less CO2 emissions. Or an innovation that allows elderly people with dementia to experience a soccer match as if they were in the Johan Cruijff ArenA itself. A new revenue model that makes plastic waste from shampoo bottles disappear. The examples are endless: the creative industry strengthens the innovation capacity of the Netherlands.
Innovations don't just happen. KEMs are design methods for (creative) professionals that contribute to solving societal challenges. They are groups of methods and tools we can use to address transition issues.
The creative industry is a 'top sector'. In other words, an industry in which the Netherlands excels worldwide. Top sectors in turn have a TKI, or Top Consortia for Knowledge and Innovation, and that's us: CLICKNL.
