Launching a new programme: EXCEED

CLICKNL launched a new program on Wednesday, March 8: Exceed. With Exceed, an acronym for "Expert Coalition for Experimental Environment Development", experts and experts by experience around experimental environments are brought together, and knowledge is exchanged and deepened.

Innovation cannot happen without experimentation. That is why environments in which new solution directions are developed, tested, substantiated, refined and made ripe for application are indispensable. These experimentation environments, such as field labs, living labs, living labs, learning communities and more, are numerous in the Netherlands and occupy a prominent place in mission-driven innovation policy as a key methodology. Yet knowledge about their optimal deployment and operation, is still largely unexplored and scattered.

Launch

On March 8, a group of about 40 gathered to celebrate the launch of Exceed together. After an introduction on the topic as a joint task by program manager Martijn Arnoldus, Bastian Coes, Marjan Kreijns and Marcel Kesselring spoke about their experiences with experimental environments, respectively ZWINC, The Green Village, and Urban Living Lab Breda. Not only do they together cover part of the pallet of experimentation environments and sectors, a first step was taken in defining common challenges, also with the rest of the attendees.

EXCEED

The multi-year program Exceed focuses on addressing four challenges:

Knowledge exchange and building with good connection to practice, partly to avoid parties having to keep reinventing the wheel;
Leveraging synergy and collaboration;
Support for multi-year experimental environments, to encourage sustainable survival, and better alignment with long-term innovation policy missions;
Creating an overview of existing initiatives, the expertise present there and the relevant focus and application areas.
