Fashion industry report
CreativeNL releases report on fashion industry, researcher: 'I'm surprised at what's already happening in the field of sustainability'
The fashion industry is under fire for its negative impact on the environment and people. Leontine Wagenaar, fashion & design expert, was therefore commissioned by CreativeNL to research the developments in eco- and circular design in the Dutch textile industry. What is the situation at hand and what opportunities lie ahead and abroad?
More specifically, Leontine Wagenaar, in collaboration with Modint - the trade association for fashion, (corporate) clothing, carpets and (interior) textiles - did a baseline measurement to serve as a foundation for the international knowledge exchange that CreativeNL wants to set up initially.
For eco and circular design
From the brief:
The fashion industry is under fire for its negative environmental and human impact. A lot of hard work is now being done to improve in many areas. We are encouraged by that. This improvement is currently being picked up by the so-called 'early adapters', but it needs to be supported much more widely by the rest.
We want to set up knowledge sharing between the Netherlands and other countries (for now Germany, United States and China) in the field of eco- and circular design. It is of great importance that information flows are bundled and can be shared with other countries - among students, teachers, but also professionals and consumers - so that we strengthen each other.
To develop a clear, directional program for this knowledge sharing, a baseline measurement of what the Dutch fashion industry is working on, and on which sustainable themes, is needed.
