2018: The field lab UPPS projects
18 December 2018
The Field Lab UPPS has started with a number of special projects that address the broad range of issues around designing, producing and showcasing and selling Ultra Personalised Products & Services. Together with companies, Field Lab UPPS will work on various projects that emerged from the first call.
Customized Ankle Foot Orthosis
The Orthopedic Center will 3D-print a personalised Ankle-Foot-Orthosis based on a parametric design of 3D-sizes of the user. The design will be developed and tested based on scans of 20 test-persons.
Screen-glove Optimisation
In order to offer the required protection, the modular-built crossguard screen-glove, comprising 40 parts, must optimally fit the hand’s sizes. What are the critical sizes a user must communicate to the company to get the glove that fits?
Personalised handles
Walker handles endure a complex combination of forces and moments, which make it difficult to predict which way a user wants to walk. Robot Care Systems will research if the functionality of the handles can be improved with new 3D-printed material combinations and better tuning to the user’s hands.
Personalized Knitwear
STRIKKS will evaluate how different visualisation techniques of sweaters can contribute to making the right decisions in finding and ordering a personalised sweater. A technical solution is being worked on to get customers’ body sizes in 3D by measuring their sizes in the store. Afterwards the customer can shape a piece of clothing and preview how it looks and fits. The system must give the customer enough trust to order this personalised design.
Predicting body deformations
Mododata wants to predict how pants fit in different positions and will therefore research if it’s possible to predict from a static 3D-scan the deformations of the human body while in different positions and movements.
Safety and comfort
Together with Geosatis, work is being done on evaluating size systems with which a minimal amount of sizes for ankle bracelets for prisoners can realise a maximal amount of safety and comfort.
Intermittent results of the different projects are expected to be presented in the spring of 2019.
