Data driven creativity
Flagship Talpa Network
The NWO is putting forward a sandpit call for the Creative Industry to create a sample project for the industry. This first Flagship project will be developed with Talpa Network. The Ministry of Economic Affairs and of Education, Culture and Science are supporting this call via a contribution that has been made available to the Topsector Creative Industry. This media research is directed at developing new data-driven proposals and strategies to serve consumers with relevant content.
The Dutch media landscape has changed drastically in the last few decades. More channels, more variety in content, and a larger and more diverse number of platforms. In the current landscape, the unpredictable, always present, fragmented viewership leads to many challenges. Producers are no longer sure whether their content will be consumed; advertisers are no longer sure how to reach their target audiences. In addition, the playing field for the media-industry is going through essential changes and an international dimension has been added in which all parties have more or less the ability to move freely. The internet knows no borders and viewers do not differentiate between national and international platforms.
Knowledge as to the behavior and composition of the viewership and the way in which the consumer accesses and uses the conglomerate of platforms and channels is necessary to develop a powerful and diversely aimed content-based media offering and linked new distribution models. Taking into account the autonomy and privacy of the users. In the end the content is the bulwark of a media company.
This is a call to develop a research proposal to provide an analysis, interpretation and visual representation of Talpa Network’s data. The goal is to make the data accessible in a way that different types of users can design evidence-based strategies to develop new content and distribution models.
The available budget of €445.000 is intended to finance one research proposal that will be developed according to the sandpit method. Partners from different professional backgrounds work closely on iterative workshops to develop creative and innovative project ideas.
