Jasper van Kuijk & EXPERTISE CENTER PUBLIC TRANSPORT PAYMENT
than the transporters were central? In the Expertise Center OV Payment of TU Delft, researchers and students research design solutions that improve the usability of the OV payment system.
Since its national implementation in 2012, complaints about the OV chip card have pretty much subsided. However, that does not mean that everyone is making satisfied and happy use of it. Do we want to pay with our mobile phone or our bank card, or do we want to not even have to think about it? Forgetting to check out continues to cause stress, as does travelling across the border. Conversely, try explaining the OV chip system to foreign visitors.
Led by dr. ir. Jasper van Kuijk, the Expertise Center OV Payment at the faculty Industrial Design researches improvements of the design and use of the OV chip card, and everything associated with it. In doing so, they put the user central.
RESEARCH AND RESULT
Since 2014, the Expertise Center has been the successor of the OV chip card Graduation Lab. Graduates and alumni recently presented results to transporters, system builders, consumer organizations, governments, suppliers and supervisors involved with various researches. The result can be summarized into six ways to improve the OV payment system:
- Better payment limit
- Tourists in public transport
- Trains across the border
- Open gates
- Checking in with your bank card
- Checking in with your mobile phone
