Joris Weijdom | HKU Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht

What is extended reality (XR), and why is it relevant for the broader field of immersive experiences and design? How do you collaborate in mixed reality (MR) environments? And why is the physical body central to the XR design process and its outcomes?

In this compact keynote, Joris Weijdom discusses the embodied nature of XR experiences and how the physical body should and can be incorporated into the design process. Also, he will show how XR technologies can be used for XR experiences and non-XR design outcomes. Based in the arts, he will offer inspirational artistic and experimental examples from the intersection of media, games and theatre, introducing an interdisciplinary embodied method for designing XR called ‘performative prototyping’.
